Preparing an OEM / ODM fashion project

Start with the design brief and the changes you need. For a buyer-led design, prepare measurements and technical requirements. For a supplier-led design, ask which existing design is proposed and which changes are available. Confirm sample approval, material choices, QC scope, and production milestones before treating a development enquiry as a bulk-production order.

Buyer guidance: This is a project-preparation checklist. It does not promise a standard MOQ, fixed sample price, production duration, design rights, or certification.

OEM / ODM buyer questions

How should I choose between OEM and ODM?

Clarify who provides the underlying design. OEM commonly starts with buyer specifications; ODM commonly starts with a supplier design. Confirm the actual development scope and design-use terms with the supplier. The label alone does not establish ownership or customisation rights.

Is there a universal MOQ for custom clothing?

Ask for MOQ against the exact style, fabric, colour, and size mix. Request separate confirmation for samples and bulk production. A sample quantity should not be interpreted as the minimum for a production run.

What should I confirm before approving a sample?

Check the sample against the agreed measurements, fit, material, trims, labels, and appearance requirements. Record approved changes and the sample version. Ask how the approved specification will be carried into bulk production and which differences require another approval.

How should I discuss production timing?

Request a milestone plan covering materials, sample revisions, approval, bulk production, QC, and dispatch. Identify which decisions or inputs must be completed before each stage starts. Confirm the schedule for the project rather than relying on a generic delivery range.

What if I only need existing supplier styles?

Compare that requirement with Trend Sourcing before requesting custom development. Ask whether the proposed item is available stock, a repeat production order, or a new development project; the answer determines what you need to confirm.
